A Paiwan society is stratified. It is ruled by mamazangiljan 'chief' who owns the mountain, river, land, and field. The chief assigns marevetjevetjek 'cusodian' to look over or take care of land.
When cinunan 'hunter' goes hunting in the chief's mountain and catches game, he needs to pay tax to the owner of the land, gives a part to the owner's custodian, shares meat with the entire village before keeping some to family and himself.
That's how things were in the past. You share.
