Paiwan Every Day 17: ljaljeqe // kaljaljeqelan

Season is understood by Paiwan by the change in nature. Spring is the time when life grows; summer is the hottest time of the year; in fall, leaves fall from the trees; and winter is the coldest time. Intangible concepts such as time are inscribed into Paiwan consciousness via the tangible, visible, sensible, or direct borrowing. This is the natural way.

1. kalja-veve-an: spring. kalja 'true'; the root is veve 'to sprout'. This compound means the time when seeds sprout, that is spring. 
2. kalja-culju-(w)an: summer; the root is culju 'hot or warm'.
3. kalja-uram-an: fall or autumn; the root is uram 'fall'. 
4. kalja-(lja)ljeqel-an: wniter; the root is ljaljeqel 'cold'. The second lja is removed.

kaljaljeqelan is sometimes prounced as kaljaljaqelan. 

I suspect it is a miss reading in the oral transmission of the word, since by morphology the word should be kalja-(lja)ljeqelan and the merge of the same vowel like a and lja is more common than removal of the sound in the middle of the word.
